LeRoy R. McDonald, 88, of Creston died June 21, 2007, at Creston Nursing and Rehab Center. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 301 E. Townline St. The Rev. Diana Leaf will officiate the service. Flag presentation will be by VFW Theodore J. Martens Post No. 797. Private burial will be at a later date. Visitation with the family receiving friends will be 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Memorial may be directed to the First Christian Church, Habitat for Humanity or Greater Regional Hospice. Online condolences may be given under the obituary category at: http://www.powersfh.com LeRoy Russell McDonald, son of Viva L. (Leach) and Johnson R. McDonald, was born June 28, 1918, in Macksburg. He graduated from Afton High School. On Nov. 28, 1940, LeRoy married Hazel L. Henry in Phoenix, Ariz. LeRoy served in the U. S. Army in the 42nd Infantry of the Rainbow Division during World War II. Later, he worked for Anderson Erickson Dairy in wholesale delivery. He lived and worked in Phoenix, Ariz., Zearing, Afton, and moved to Creston in approximately 1951. He did carpentry work for many years, retiring in 1975. LeRoy was a longtime member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Creston, American Legion Post No. 70 and a volunteer with the Habitat for Humanity team in Creston. Survivors include three daughters, Karen (husband Lewis) Clark of Colorado Springs, Colo., Barbara (husband Allan) Faidley of Winterset and Kristine (husband Jack) Cheers of Stanton; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother Dale McDonald of Creston; three sisters, Leona Kirkland of Winterset, Ruby Dibel of Creston and Bonnie Pulliam of Phoenix, Ariz.; two brothers-in-law, William H. “Bill” (wife Thelma) Henry Jr. of Cantonsville, Md., and the Rev. Charles (wife Harriet) Henry of Des Moines; four sisters-in-law, Donna McDonald of Diagonal, Beulah McDonald of Creston, Ruth Cole of Afton and Gertrude Sieck of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and aunt Ruth Wambold of Creston. LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents; wife March 26, 2003; five brothers, Francis, LaVerne, J.R., Wayne and Dean McDonald; and sister Eleanor Hammons.
