There may be only 32 teams left in all of the classes playing for a placing at the state tournament, but a couple of local boys are making some noise on a different team, the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches All-District First and Second Teams.

Still in the hunt for another state championship, the Lenox Tigers had two players named to first team all-district and two more put on the second team.

The main man on the mound Ethan Westphal and his counterpart behind the plate Tyler Peterson both received first team honors. Westphal is 13-0 this season with two saves from the rubber and batting .598. On the basepath, the sophomore has totaled eight doubles, four triples and 21 stolen bases.

In his final season as a Tiger, Tyler Peterson is batting .585 and broke the single-season home run record for Lenox with 12. Peterson will continue his education at Iowa State University this fall.

Making second team for the Tigers were juniors Robert Brown and Eric Hensley. Brown has scored 29 runs for Lenox and is maintaining a perfect fielding percentage. Hensley has been a utility man this season, playing multiple spots in the infield and doing a little bit of pitching. He is batting .379 and has a pitching record of 4-1.

Orient-Macksburg

After his senior season was cut short in the first round of districts by conference-rival Elk Horn-Kimballton, Antonio Cruz has been placed on the all-district first team. Cruz was 34-for-34 for stolen bases this season for Orient-Macksburg and led the Bulldogs with three home runs.

Cruz will be in Spartan blue next season on the baseball rooster at Southwestern Community College.

Murray

Caleb Byers, the lone senior on the Murray Mustang lineup, led the team on offense with three home runs and 33 stolen bases.

On defense, Byers was very mobile, playing shortstop and taking on some of the pitching responsibilities most of the season. In this first round of districts, he even did some catching for the Mustangs.

Conference teams

Besides Cruz, the Rolling Hills Conference had four representatives from Iowa Christian Academy, who won their first-ever conference title this season. The Eagles were led by first team selection Keaton Schut, a junior pitcher.
