Stick to a position
From Lisa Ross

Every day in the life of our elected officials in Des Moines leads to more and more questions for me as to how contradictory Mr. Reasoner’s actions are compared to his words.
First, at the beginning of the session this year, Mr. Reasoner submitted a resolution, entitled Iowa Marriage Amendment (IMA), to amend the Iowa Constitution to define marriage in this state as the union of one man and one woman. He claims to believe this is what the definition of marriage should be.
When Mr. Gronstal declared he would not allow the IMA out of committee for a vote, Mr. Reasoner seemed content with letting his own resolution die in committee. When pressed at the legislative coffee in January, Mr. Reasoner would not commit to the large crowd that he would do whatever it took to see that his own resolution made it to the floor for a vote saying he believes you have to let the “process” work.
On Feb. 9, there was an effort to suspend the rules by Republicans and one Democrat to force the IMA out of committee for a vote – By the way, this vote is for whether you and I will be allowed to exercise our constitutional right to vote on this issue like 31 other states in this nation have been allowed to do. – Mr. Reasoner voted NO on his own resolution! When asked about why he voted against his own resolution, he stated he did so because by attempting to “suspend the rules” to force the resolution out of committee, the members behind the effort were subverting the process, and he did not agree with this tactic.
Then, low and behold, on March 8, the House voted to suspend the rules to force the texting ban resolution out of committee for a vote. Mr. Reasoner voted FOR this suspension of the rules so that a vote could be held on this bill. I thought you said that you did not agree with this tactic, Mr. Reasoner?
Mr. Reasoner, do the right thing and pick a position and stick with it so your constituents can know, without a doubt, where you stand. Watching all the flip flopping is getting quite exhausting and frustrating for those of us who you are supposed to be representing.
