Adkisson files lawsuits against all involved in brother’s death
Luella Adkisson claims the actions of several parties Aug. 25, 2008, in and outside Fareway Food Stores, lead to the death her 59-year-old brother Ronald R. Adkisson.
According to court documents filed with the Union County Clerk of Court Aug. 25, 2010, Luella and her lawyer narrate her side of what unfolded Aug. 25, 2008, claiming the following:
• Ronald Adkisson suffered an epileptic seizure while sitting on a bench inside Fareway Aug. 25, 2008. During said seizure, Ronald’s head repeatedly hit the window behind him.
• A customer noticed Ronald and called for assistance.
• Fareway General Manager Mark Benbo and customer Janet Conner attended Ronald until Creston Fire and Rescue first responders Gary Thompson and James Schaffer arrived at approximately 5:13 p.m.
• Another customer and an acquaintance of Ronald, LeAnne Rotert, told first responders, among others, that Ronald often had seizures and suggested they allow Ronald time to recover.
• Thompson and Schaffer placed an oxygen mask on Ronald.
• According to Luella, police officer Eric Shawler arrived on the scene at 5:14 p.m. and paramedics Rex Shough and Tate Christensen arrived at approximately 5:15 p.m. with a gurney and stretcher.
• “Disoriented,” Ronald stood up and walked to the back of Fareway while Shawler and first responders Thompson and Shough followed.
• Shawler called for backup.
