Residents of Creston and the surrounding areas have reportedly been receiving mailings from a company called HomeServe offering to provide residents water service line insurance.

“This is not a company that we are familiar with,” said Creston Water Works General Manager Steve Green. “We have received calls from a lot of residents advising us they have received these mailings.”

Green added these offers are a blanket mailing that seems to have gone out to every city in Iowa, and it was up to the customer to decide if they feel they need insurance.

“Our recommendation to customers is to call their own insurance agent they have known and worked with for years and years,” said Green. “They need to check pretty thoroughly into this, and if they want the insurance, go through their local agent they know.”

Green added there is no requirement for residents to have insurance to be a customer.

Southern Iowa Rural Water Association General Manager Dan Mcintosh said SIRWA personnel have not heard anything on these mailings.
