LENOX — Dennis and Judy Bunch have owned Bunch Hardware in Lenox for 32 years, but as of Jan. 30, the store became Lenox Hardware as new owners, Mark and Misha Curtis, took over.
Mark and Misha own Curtis Heating and Cooling and Misha works at Greater Regional Medical Center as a registered nurse in the labor and delivery department. They are still going to keep the heating and cooling business.
“We have had the heating and cooling business since 2005, and while I’m here, I can let the guys there handle that,” said Mark. “I have three full-time employees, but most of the jobs still go through me first, they get priced through me, and if they hit a snag with something they still call me. I’m still in the loop there.”
Misha is going to cut back on her job at GRMC.
“I’m still working two days a week at Greater Regional Medical Center,” said Misha. “They’re really flexible, both places are.”
For the past several years, the Curtises have been talking to the Bunches about buying the business.
“They weren’t really ready, and we never got into huge details,” said Mark. “When they advertised it for sale, I looked into it then, but it was kind of overwhelming at the time.”
He said it was also the amount of money down he anticipated it would take that scared him off.
“But, my wife and I kept talking about it, and finally, we just decided to sit down with the person selling it,” said Mark. “We talked about what it was actually going to cost and things like that. After we did that, we were pretty much gung-ho about it.”
Lenox Hardware
The only thing changing about Bunch Hardware is the name.
“We just wanted to keep the name generic,” said Mark. “That’s why we chose Lenox Hardware.”
Mark added people are wondering if Lenox Hardware is going to do the same things Bunch Hardware did.
“We are going to do the same stuff,” said Mark. “Nothing is going to change. And the Bunch’s are going to be here working on a part-time basis, so people will still see their faces when they come into the store.”
Currently, the Curtises are trying to learn the routine of the store.
“There are a lot of small things to learn that aren’t wrote down anywhere,” said Mark. “We are just trying to learn the business and help the customers, because it’s more of a relationship thing rather than just making money. It’s building relationships and helping people.”
Misha keeps track of the books and handles the advertising for the business.
“We both do the ordering,” she said. “But I can do some of the work from home, which is nice. I’m excited. It’s a little overwhelming, but I’m still excited.”
Mark and Misha Curtis added they feel they have big shoes to fill.
“The Bunches built this business from very little,” said Mark. “They used to be across the street, in a smaller building with a smaller inventory, and they’ve made it into this.”
Overall, the Curtises are excited to take over and help serve the community.
