The Huddleson/Maas family reunion will be Sunday at Fontanelle Community Center (next to the fire station). Attendees will eat at 12:30 p.m.

Jack Huddleson is coming from Alabama. His sister, Creola Blakwell, is coming, also.

CHS Class of 1957

Creston High School class of 1957 held its 55th reunion from June 29 through July 1 at the Elks Club in Creston.

Activities started with an informal get together the evening of June 29 at the Elks Club.

The evening of June 30 brought the class together for a social hour, class picture and banquet with 38 classmates in attendance, as well as two teachers.

Mistress of ceremonies Betty (Smith) Clayton Wallace introduced the members of the planning committee, James Francis, Butch Miller, Dale McGinnis, Bud Harper, Marisue Lewis, Joyce (Novotne) Fils, Barbara (Wilmeth) Willets Jennings and Roberta (Cunningham) Henry.

The local committee was assisted by a group of classmates who met in Arizona in January; they were: Al and Linda (Abbott) Brown, Fred Weisshaar, Marilyn (Davis) Carl, Leonard Miller, Duane Abbott and Phyllis (Hetland) Hauptmeier. Assisting the committee were several wives: Linda McGinnis, Marilyn Frances, Diane Harper, Phyllis Abbott and Kathy Weisshaar.

On Saturday afternoon, a group of classmates, families and friends met at Lincoln School and were given a tour by Warren Woods who explained the proposed transformation of the school into the library.

Sunday morning brought the classmates back together at the Elks for brunch, which was followed by a tour of The Iowana and then on to the Depot to view the presidential inaugural doll collection done by Linda (Abbott) Brown’s mother.

Attending from out of state were: Gary Bengtson of Hermosa Beach, Calif.; Bob Blair and Dorothy Detlor of Spokane, Wash.; Al and Linda (Abbott) Brown of Surprise, Ariz.; Susan Cornick of St. Augustine, Fla.; Marvin and Evelyn (Truman) Davenport of Mount Vernon, Mo.; Gary and Pat Dwyer of Bella Vista, Ark.; Larry and Billie (Bullock) Embree of Quincy, Ill.; Larry and Phyllis (Hetland) Hauptmeier of Overton, Neb.; Jack and Connie McDowell of Lincoln, Neb.; Leonard and Jean Miller of Sun Lakes, Ariz.; Merrill and Martie Newman of Aurora, Colo.; Claudia (Weisshaar Fleming) Schomaker of Omaha, Neb.; Roger and Joan (Hayes) Schraufek of Detroit Lakes, Minn.; and Cliff Weisshaar of Mesa, Ariz.

Attending from Iowa were: Duane and Phyllis Abbott of Story City; Terry and Carol Beaumont of Sioux City; Linda (Van Syoc) Bourne and Mary Jane (Alloway) Kralik, both of Norwalk; Bill and Trudy (Jarmon) Claypool and Bob and Mary Kidd, all of Cedar Rapids; James and Marilyn Francis, Roberta (Cunningham) Henry, Barb (Wilmeth Willets) Jennings, David and Linda James, Dale and Linda McGinnis, Richard (Butch) Miller, Rex and Connie (Freemyer) Spainhower, Dean and Betty (Smith Clayton) Wallace, Marisue Lewis and Gordon Houk and Bud and Diane Harper, all of Creston; Roy and Jane Goodlaxson of Altoona; Marjorie (Western) Pettinger of Wheatland; Dave and Jacque (Churchill) Phillips of Monroe; Curt and Shelby (Holmes) Wiethorn of Cedar Falls; and Fred and Kathy Weisshaar of Indianola.

89th Annual Overholtzer Reunion

The 89th annual Overholtzer reunion was held Aug. 5 at Tingley Community Building. Host and hostess were Howard and Jenesse Tull of Tingley.

The Rev. Jack Kendall gave the blessing followed by David Overholtzer leading the 68 relatives and guests in the Pledge of Allegiance. There was a potluck dinner.

After dinner, the Overholtzer Olympics was held in the yard of the community building with several teams of young and old competing in the various games. Gold dollars, silver half dollars and bronze rolls of pennies were given as prizes. Jenesse Tull also conducted an Overholtzer trivia game with several prizes being awarded.

David Overholtzer conducted the business meeting. A letter was read from Richard and Joan Overholtzer from San Jose, Calif.

Marriages reported were Justin Lee Cherington and Chanelle Mulvey married Oct. 3, 2010; Tyler Jordan Cherington and Cassaundra Rae Ware married Sept. 8, 2011; Julie Ann Kendall and Dwayne Fry married Nov. 11, 2011; and Carrie Marie Gebel and Nolan Gerald Herring married July 25, 2009.

Births reported were Damien Zephyr Scott born July 9, 2012; Avery Grace Houk born March 7, 2012; Maddox Gage Mann born Nov. 18, 2011; Tieg Schweitzberger born Dec. 12, 2011; and Braden Dean Johnson born July 7, 2012.

Lila Overholtzer of Mount Ayr was the only reported death.

Next year will be the 90th anniversary of the reunion, and Cleone Overholtzer Hosfield volunteered to be the hostess. The Scott family and others will also help with the planning. Several ideas were given for special ways to celebrate. There is goal to have at least 90 people in attendance to celebrate this family milestone Aug. 4, 2013.
