Murray 64, Moravia 6

MURRAY — Murray stayed undefeated by sailing to a 38-0 lead in the first quarter on the way to the 58-point homecoming victory Friday.

Cody Scroggie's 51-yard run on Murray's first play from scrimmage started the five-touchdown barrage in the first quarter. He took a pass from Austin Halls three minutes later for a 58-yard TD. Halls finished with two TD passes and also returned a fumble 11 yards for a score.

Everyone contributed as Murray improved to 6-0 overall, and 4-0 in district play. Ten different Mustangs scored points, and 19 were in on tackles during Murray's 11th consecutive home victory. The defense yielded only 68 total yards and six first downs, despite liberal substitutions.

"Our guys played very well and were focused after a busy homecoming week," coach Keith Shields said. "All of our guys got a chance to play. It was a good way to rejuvenate everyone as we enter the final third of the regular season, with three important district games left to play."

This week Murray plays at Colo-Nesco, which defeated Mormon Trail 73-14 to improve to 5-2.

Corning 34, Villisca 32

CORNING — The Corning Red Raiders rallied from a 20-0 deficit to get past Villisca by two points Friday night.

The two programs, which will combine next year as the Southwest Valley Timberwolves, were locked in shootout that culminated in a 1-yard touchdown run by Jordan Stuart with 5:29 remaining to push the Red Raiders in front for the first time.

Villisca (1-5) led 20-0 at halftime. Corning jumped back into contention with a 20-point third quarter to pull within 26-20 at the end of the period.

"It was one of the wildest games I've ever been a part of," said Corning coach Kent Bass. "Villisca was definitely the aggressor early on. We made just enough big p;lays to keep us in the ball game. Blaine Williams was huge for us. He had a kickoff return to start the second half, a big touchdown run at the end of the third quarter, and the biggest defensive play of the night with an interception in the fourth quarter."

Corning, 3-3, plays at Lenox Friday.
