Elisa ‘Lilly’ Ross — Corning

Elisa “Lilly” Ross, 85, of Corning died Sept. 29, 2012, at Corning Nursing and Rehab Center.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, at Roland-Ritchie Funeral Home, 905 Benton Ave., Corning. Interment will be in Prairie Rose Cemetery in rural Adams County. Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday with family present 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Care Initiatives Hospice. Elisa “Lilly” (Raucq) Ross, daughter of Maurice Boesman and Renee’ Raucq, was born Oct. 19, 1927, in Charleroi, Belgium. 

Lilly attended grade school in Charleroi, Belgium, at the age of 6 for six years. She attended high school in Namur, Belgium, for three years. She attended college for 2 1/2 years. All the schools she attended were Catholic.

Lilly was 13 years old when Germans invaded her native country of Belgium, and she, along with her mother and grandmother, fled to France, and later returned to Belgium.

Eventually, German soldiers were replaced by Americans, and Lilly met U.S. Army Air Force radio operator Wayne Ross. They were married Sept. 15, 1945. 

After they were married, Wayne went to Germany, then back home to Iowa. After she arrived in Iowa, they lived on a farm in Nodaway.

In January 1947, they moved north of Mount Etna.

In 1948, they moved north of Carbon.

From 1951 to 1975, they farmed 360 acres north of Prescott. 

Lilly was a lifetime member of Williamson American Auxiliary.

She worked at Casey’s for awhile making donuts. Lilly is survived by her daughters, Lucy (husband Lee) Garrett of Springfield, Neb., and Lisa Ross and Mike Reader of Sioux City; son Victor Ross of North Carolina; grandchildren, Dawn (husband Anthony) Johnson of Springfield, Neb., Misty Garrett of Glenwood, Tara Squibbs of Corning, Tammy (husband Nathan) Lens of Creston, Dale Roberts (Jackie and Andrea) of Corning, Tyler Thomas of Sioux City, Terry (wife Ann) Ross of Creston and Tim (wife Lisa) Ross of Creston; great-grandchildren, Makenzie and Garrett Johnson, Colton and Mya Squibbs, Jayson Lens, Skylar, Brittany and James Ross, Aaron, Jeffrey and Kristin Shaw, Tiffany, Michelle and Ashley Ross and Cameron Henson; along with many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Lilly was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
