Barbara Shuler, 89, of Corning died Sept. 29, 2012, at Parkway Village Assisted Living in Little Rock, Ark.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Pearson Family Funeral Service, 701 Seventh St., Corning. Burial will be in Prairie Rose Cemetery in Adams County. Open visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. Friday with family present 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial has been established in her name.
Barbara Ann Shuler, daughter of Ella Irene (Devereaux) and Bennett Nicholas Amdor, was born Aug. 2, 1923, in Adams County.
Barbara attended High Point Grade School in Lincoln Township and graduated from Corning High School in 1940 with a teaching certificate. She taught in Douglas No. 1 Township.
On Jan. 31, 1941, Barbara married Olin Myron Shuler in Maryville, Mo.
After marrying, they moved to Olin’s parent’s farm until they purchased their own farm two miles away and spent their life farming and raising four children.
In April 1973, they moved to Corning, but still maintained their family farm. Barbara worked side by side farming with her husband.
Barbara and their family were members of the Fairview United Church of Christ where she served as a clerk and youth leader. Barbara and Olin were active in Taylor County 4-H, where she worked with the Holt Lassies Club and served on the Family Living and 4-H Youth Committee. She was Adams County 4-H program aide organizing new clubs, bringing a variety of new projects to the state program and held the first mini-conference in Iowa.
Later, Barbara was the dietary supervisor at Rosary Hospital until she retired.
Barbara is survived by her children, Carolyn (Eugene) Edmonds of Huxley, Richard (Sharon) Shuler of Johns Creek, Ga., Barbara D’Ann Shuler of Portland, Maine, and Marilyn Shuler of Benton, Ark.; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Scott (Carrie) Shuler and children Aidan, Nathan and Ann of Portland, Ore.; Joel (Lisi) Shuler of Austin, Texas; Jennifer (Miles) Archer and children Olin and Daphne of Falmouth, Maine; Kristine (Sam) Gile and son Austin of Portland, Maine; Andrew Dach and son Jules of Montepillier, France; Kathryn Pike and daughter Lillie of Benton, Ark.; and Emily Harris of Madison, Wis.; brother Ed (Jinx) Amdor of Corning; sister Beth Mueller of Omaha, Neb.; brother-in-law Bill (Carol) Shuler of Corning; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband in 2005; parents; brothers, Jack and Bill Amdor; sisters, Helen and Virginia; sisters-in-law, Inez and Doris Amdor and brother-in-law Harold Mueller.
