CHS marching band has ‘huge weekend’ at Clarinda
CLARINDA — The Creston High School Panther marching band had a successful weekend at the Clarinda Southwest Iowa Band Jamboree, earning the jamboree’s top award for best overall band in all classes and winning the Glenn Miller trophy.
“This was probably one of the biggest things to happen to us since 1999,” said Mike Peters, CHS band director. “To put this in perspective, this is like winning the district or state championship in any sport. This is a huge deal for us. For us to completely dominate in every aspect and at every level says a lot for our kids and program.”
The best overall band award and Glenn Miller trophy was earned after the Panther marching band placed first in the Class 3A parade competition, recording the highest score of all bands in all classes, defeating second-place Harlan, Atlantic and Trenton, Mo.
