Robert Hiram Thomas Jr., 75, of Corning died Sept. 30, 2012, at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital in Corning.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, at Pearson Family Funeral Service, 701 Seventh St., Corning. Inurnment will be at Prairie Rose Cemetery in Adams County at a later date.Open visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with family present 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Robert Hiram Thomas Jr., son of Anna (Cohrs) and Robert Hiram Thomas Sr., was born July 30, 1937, near Conway, soon after moving to a farm east of Bushville.

Robert attended Grove No. 8 and Holt No. 6 country schools in Taylor County and graduated from Corning High School in 1955.

In 1957, Robert attended Omaha University (UNO) and in 1963 graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in education. In order to complete his education, Robert worked at various jobs, financing his education.

On Dec. 5, 1959, Robert married Carol Vogel at Fairview Christian Church.

Robert and Carol resided in Omaha, Neb., where Robert was an agent for State Farm Insurance.

In March 1983, they moved back to the Rimmer Farm, south of Corning, where he farmed.

Robert was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 275. He was a member of the Fairview Church until its closing and then joined the First Presbyterian Church of Corning.

Robert is survived by his wife Carol Thomas of Corning; son, Robert Michael (fiancé Marsha) of Red Oak; daughter Diane Lynn (husband Darrell) Hein of Corning; grandchildren, Samantha, Hanna, Molly and Alec, all of Red Oak, and Russell and Rochelle Hein, both of Corning; sisters, Marion Barrans and Lillian (husband Harold) Leonard, all of Lenox; sister-in-law Virginia (husband Otis) Philbrick of Mills River, N.C.; four nephews; three nieces; great-nephews and -nieces, many other family and friends.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Russell and Neva Vogel; brother-in-law Bill Barrans and nephew Randall Leonard.
