8th football
WINTERSET — Winterset won 26-20 in the A game over Creston/O-M eighth-graders and 8-0 in the B game in action Thursday.
Chase Shiltz had 100 yards rushing with a touchdown, and eight tackles for the Panthers. Jackson MIkkelson had a 64-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Quinton Scadden also had eight tackles.
“In both games, Winterset was just plain faster than us,” said Creston/O-M coach Kristopher Hayes. “We didn’t do a good job of sustaining blocks on smaller, faster defenders, which resulted in a tough offensive night. Our defense played well against a very speedy offensive backfield for Winterset, but we gave up three big plays, which had us playing from behind most of the night.”
Cody Crawford had 10 tackles and an interception for Creston/O-M in the B game.
Creston/O-M, now 4-1, plays at home Thursday against Clarinda.

7th football
Creston/O-M seventh-graders edged Winterset here Thursday, 14-6, while winning the second game, 6-0.
“We slowed down their big back and did a better job of controlling the ball on offense,” said Creston/O-M coach Dick Clark.
Jaden Driskell connected with Cole Higgins on a 70-yard pass play to the 5-yard line, and then passed to Kolby Tomas for a touchdown. Tomas also had a 22-yard touchdown run and Driskell added the two-point conversion. Trevor Downing had a team-high seven tackles.
Dalton Bierle scored on a 7-yard run on the last play of the game to win the B game. He finished with 49 yards rushing.
