The Southern Prairie YMCA is back on its feet as renovations to the building caused by April’s EF2 tornado are nearing completion.
The cardio room, weight room, track and gym are now available. Fitness classes are back at the Y and being conducted on the new synthetic gym floor. YMCA staff said a new group fitness class schedule will start Nov. 4.
The dehumidification unit for the pool has arrived and crews have been working on installation. The pool is full of water, but it may still take until November for the pool to be available to members. A new swimsuit dryer has also been installed in the hallway of the family locker room area.
The locker room renovation project is almost complete. A new family locker room and handicapped accessible locker room have been added just outside of the pool entrance. The locker rooms are expected to be completed soon.
The YMCA has extended its hours. Hours are Monday through Thursday 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The YMCA is planning an open house in January to celebrate the restoration and remodel.
