Ron Hoyt Marshalltown
Ronald Hoyt, 76, of Marshalltown, formerly of the Creston and Indianola areas, died Oct. 1, 2012, at Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at Hopeville United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dwayne Henrichs will officiate. Flag presentation will be conducted by Afton VFW John B. Parks Post 8882. Burial will be in Hopeville Cemetery. Open visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. Powers Funeral Home, 612 N. Ronald Lee Hoyt, son of Esther Bertha (Butman) and Oran Hillary Hoyt, was born Aug. 8, 1936, in Cumberland.
Ron was educated at Creston Community Schools.
Ron served as part of the U.S. Air Force at Lackline Air Force Base in Texas.
On Jan. 29, 1960, Ron married Betty Jean Palmer.
They settled in Indianola, where Ron worked laying sod for nearly 20 years. They later divorced.
Ron later moved to the Creston area.
He moved to the Veterans Home in Des Moines and later to the Veterans Home in Marshalltown.
Ron is survived by his daughter Pamela Hoyt; sons, Michael and Patrick (wife Crystal) Hoyt, all of the Sioux City area; brothers, Donald Hoyt of Afton, Robert (wife Sharon) Hoyt of Shenandoah and Keith Hawkins of Alma, Ill.; sisters, Sylvia Young of Fontanelle, Betty Foster of Savannah, Mo., Helen Purscell of Shannon City and Irene (husband Jack) Small of Boone; 10 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; a son; brother Glen Hoyt and sister-in-law Sylvia Hoyt.
