MARSHALLTOWN — Down by six points in the third set, in danger of falling behind 2-1, the Southwestern Community College volleyball team rallied to win and go on to post a 3-1 road victory Wednesday night.
The Spartans won 25-22, 21-25, 25-23, 25-20 to improve to 17-7 for the season. Marshalltown fell to 6-16 in the match that did not count in the region standings.
“This was a great win for us,” coach Melissa Blessington said. “Marshalltown is a very scrappy team and we had to work hard for every point. WE came back in the third game. Serna Yong came in and gave us a great lift. Lilly Lower had a great hight for us in the middle, and that came from great passing and setting.”
Lower finished with 22 kills in four sets. Mel Mangrum had seven blocks along with seven kills. Alex Duffy contributed nine kills and was sharp at the serving line at 16-17 with two aces, matching Katelyn Coyle.
