The roll call next month will be, “Where would you like to cruise?” Pam Marvin, Charottle Assell and Suzanne Frost will serve refreshments. The program next month will be Four Ladies’ Journey to America in 1620 by Lynne Schlaht, Bonnie Riepe, Elaine Brown and Connie Kinkade.

Kiwanis

The weekly Kiwanis meeting was held 12:05 p.m. Tuesday at The Windrow with 28 members and two guests.

Brad Lorenzen president, presided. Steve Bolie gave the prayer, and Jane Lowe was finemaster.

The program was Jackie Steffan, director of Creston YMCA, who showed pictures and gave updates of all the repairs and upgrades being done at the Y since the tornado in April.

Karen Finn, widow of Kiwanis member Mickey Finn, presented the club with $500 to add to the club’s Mickey Finn Scholarship fund that goes to students from area high schools who go to SWCC each year.

The Kiwanis coat drive is 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Methodist Church, 400 N. Elm St. The club is accepting new and coats in good condition at Hometown Insurance, Petznick’s and Casey’s South.

The club will also be selling live Christmas wreaths in two sizes and a swag as a fundraiser with delivery before Thanksgiving, contact any member for information, deadline to order will be Nov. 6.

TOPS

TOPS 1338 met 5:30 p.m. Oct. 1 at the Methodist Church. Eight members weighed in with Monica Belew as the best loser. Monthly best loser was Carol Sheldahl and Neoma Davis as runner-up.

Diana Loomis opened the business meeting with the TOPS pledge. Minutes were read and approved, and the treasurer’s report was given. The fall rally will be held Oct. 27 at Staves Memorial Methodist Church in Des Moines. “Sqaures” were won by Loomis.

Jane King gave the program titled “Lettuce Learn.” This was a study of the various kinds of lettuce.

The Red Can Challenge is to write a note telling what one admires about that person.

On Oct. 8, TOPS 1338 met with 10 members weighing in. The best loser was Marisue Lewis and Anna Thompson was the runner-up.

The program was presented by Alice Brown. She read a poem called “The Ultimate Goal,” regarding attitudes one has toward weight and relationships.
