Creston/O-M defeated Clarinda 31-12 in the first game, before falling 6-0 in the second game Thursday.

Chase Shiltz rushed for 165 yards and three touchdowns. Jackson Mikkelson carried for 47 yards and a TD. Brody Frain passed for 43 yards, ran for 22 and a TD. Shiltz led the defense with 10 tackles. Kadon Hulett had seven tackles and two fumble recoveries.

“This win was a result of total team defense and relentless pursuit of the football,” coach Kristopher Hayes said. “We made a few mistakes, being overly aggressive early, but we made the proper adjustments.”

Hayes said work of the offensive and defensive lines determined the game, freeing up linebackers to make plays on defense and staying on blocks on offense to allow backs to rush up the field.

Creston/O-M (4-1) travels to Denison Thursday to finish the season.

Clarinda won a high-scoring seventh-grade game here Thursday, 48-22, before Creston/O-M captured the second game, 6-0.

Creston/O-M scoring came on a 60-yard run by Trevor Downing, a 50-yard run and two-point conversion by Kolby Tomas and a 40-yard pass play from Jaden Driskell to Evan Jacobson.

“We had 287 offensive yards, the most all year, but we let Clarinda loose way too much,” said Creston/O-M coach Dick Clark. “One their fast guys got past our ‘bigs,’ we couldn’t catch them. We also fumbled a couple and allowed Clarinda a big punt return.”

Creston/O-M finishes the season against Denison-Schleswig on Thursday.
