Green Hills AEA rescinds proposal to rename Swan Street
Green Hills AEA has rescinded its proposal to the city of Creston for renaming Swan Street to Green Hills Avenue, because they were unaware the street was named after Col. Simeon D. Swan, the first mayor of Creston.
There will be no public hearing on the matter, and the proposal has been taken off of the Creston City Council agenda, according to City Administrator Mike Taylor.
“Once we learned that the street had been named after the first mayor of Creston, we rescinded the proposal,” said Layne Plugge, chief administrator of Green Hills AEA. “We would have never made the request if we would have known it was in honor of an individual. We thought it would be a good way to establish ourselves in a new location, but we never want to do anything to offend anyone.”
