Jo Powe Creston
Jo Powe, 86, of Creston died Oct. 7, 2012, at Greater Regional Hospice Home.
Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at the First Christian Church, Creston. The Rev. Diana Clark will officiate. Inurnment will be in Greenfield Cemetery. There will be no public viewing. Visitation with family present will be 1 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Pearson Family Funeral Service, 809 W. Montgomery St., is in charge of arrangements. Mary Joann “Jo” Powe, daughter of Maude W. (Houston) and Leonard C. Valentine, was born March 12, 1926, in Greenfield.
Jo graduated from Roosevelt High School in Des Moines in 1944.
On June 22, 1946, Jo married Rodney Milton Powe in Des Moines.
After they were married, she helped her husband at Office Machines in Creston.
After retirement, Jo and Rod owned and operated an ice cream shop, Bresslers 33 Flavors, in Oak Park Mall, Overland Park, Kan.
Jo lived in Arizona from 1984 to 2005.
Jo was a member of Crestmoor Golf Club and Fountain of the Sun Community in Mesa, Ariz., for many years. She belonged to several bowling leagues and several different Bridge Clubs. Jo was a long-time member of the First Christian Church in Creston.
Jo is survived by her children, Kathy (Bob) Marshall of Olathe, Kan., Nancy (Bill) Colwell of Hudson and Greg (Wanda) Powe of Las Cruces, N.M.; grandchildren, Lisa (Russ) Everhart of Overland Park, Kan., Britt McDonald of Overland Park, Kan., Devon (Regina) McDonald of Shawnee, Kan., Blake Colwell (and special friend Erin Harms) of Cedar Falls,Shelby Colwell (and special friend Luke McNeese) of Cedar Rapids and David Powe of Houston, Texas; great-grandchildren, Briley and Haven Everhart, Mia and Josie McDonald and Evian, Kendal, Shelby and Hailee Powe; nephews, John (Davia) Hobbs, and daughter Addie of Davenport, and Michael and Dean Valentine; and nieces, Lyndsey Loyet of Des Moines and daughter MacKenzie Loyet of Columbus, Ind., and Leigh Valentine.
Jo was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1994; brothers, James and Robert Valentine; sister Virginia Loyet; and nephews, Kevin Loyet and Mike Hobbs.
