ATLANTIC — The Creston middle school boys cross country team finished fourth and the girls team finished fifth here Thursday at the Trojan Invite.

Ben Irr led the Creston boys with a second-place finish in 12:06. Isaac Wignall finished 19th in 13:18.

“Ben Irr ran another good race for us,” head coach Clay Arnold said. “He finished second to the Glenwood kid, but he’s looking forward to running against him againat conference. This is only the second boy that has beat him all year.”

Isaiah Foster finished with a time of 13:41 in 28th place while Cade Vicker finished 31st in 13:46. Patrick Normandeau rounded out the boys team scoring with a 59th-place finish in 14:44.

On the girls side, Danielle Castillo led the way with a 10th-place finish in 13:55. Angela Drey finished 19th in 14:36 and Cora Green was 29th in 15:04.

Leah Schuler finished 39th and Rachel Shepherd rounded out the team scoring wiht a 39th-place finish.

“Danielle Castillo had a breakout performance as a 7th-grader,” Arnold said. “She earned our top spot on our girls team, something she had been working on for a couple of weeks. Overall, our team did not perform at the level that we have been so far this season, but that’s something that’s always a possibility. We look to bounce back at the first ever Middle School Conference meet to finish up our regular season before state.”

The Panthers return to action at the Hawkeye 10 meet Thursday in Shenandoah.
