Beta Sigma Phi

Alpha Sigma Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Oct. 11 at Summit House with Pat Fils as hostess. Bev Miller presided. Members answered roll call with “Something I like about fall.”

Communications included a thank you for guest day, and from international, a member certification form and the availability of vintage pins.

Social Chairman Marilyn Larimore summarized guest day activities. She also asked members to wear Halloween colors to the next meeting.

There was discussion about a service project for December.

Dorothy Eyberg read from the Book of Beta Sigma Phi on the topic of progression.

Fils gave the program, touching on a variety of topics. She conducted an activity on “pie personality,” and shared humorous items. Fils gave a quiz on presidential facts with Eyberg receiving the prize.

The Oct. 25 meeting will be with Bev Miller at Summit House.

Afton Federated Garden Club

Afton Federated Garden Club was hostess at a fall salad luncheon Oct. 12 at Lorimor Community Center.

Before the luncheon, a general discussion was held by AFGC members. Sign-up sheets were passed around for next year’s hostesses and programs. President Johnson announced AFGC has been invited to the Sunshine Garden Club fall brunch 10 a.m. Nov. 7 at Madison Square in Winterset. RSVP to Vicki Johnson by Nov. 1.

An update on the name plaque for the marker was given, and Mary Seales presented a check from American Legion Auxiliary Fred N. Davis Post Unit No. 96 for The Blue Star Marker Project.

The luncheon was held at 11 a.m. The 35 attendees at the luncheon included members of Bevington Garden Club, Sunshine Garden Club from Winterset, Afton Federated Garden Club, four guests and speaker Kate Zimmerman.

The tables were decorated with different types of fall centerpieces created by the members, and many salads were also prepared and served by the members of Afton Federated Garden Club.

After the luncheon, Vicki Johnson introduced speaker Kate Zimmerman from Ringgold County Conservation Board, who did a program on humming birds, their habitat and habits.
