Ladies Lakeshore Auxiliary
Ladies Lakeshore Auxiliary met Oct. 10.
Canasta winners were Rose Blakesley, first; Wanda Nash, second; and Maxine May, third.
May won the door prize.
Delta Kappa Gamma
Beta Kappa Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma met 6:15 p.m. Oct. 2 at the Olive Branch Restaurant in Greenfield with 11 members present.
Members were reminded that dues of $65 should be given to Vicky Wood before Oct. 31.
A sympathy card was signed by the members present to be sent in addition to a red
rose to Julie Derby.
Bills were presented for various expenses, including purchases for the Help in a Bag project, where approximately half of the mini-grant money was spent. The rest of the mini-grant will be used for next year’s project.
The new program books were distributed. Members were asked to check new committee assignments for the next year.
Members briefly discussed the April meeting, when the chapter will have a joint meeting with Pi Chapter to sew dresses for the children of Africa.
Diane Burgmaier gave a report on the fall executive board meeting. Five members attended the area six meeting with Upsilon State President Angela Pratt on Oct. 6.
The next meeting will be 7 p.m. Dec. 3 at the home of Tammie Cass in Fontanelle. The guest speaker will tell about her button hobby and its history.
After the meeting was adjourned, several members toured the Warren Cultural Center, which has recently been restored and improved for community use.
GRMC Auxiliary
Greater Regional Medical Center Auxiliary met Oct. 8 at the MAP conference room at Greater Regional Medical Center. Carolyn Biere conducted the meeting. Ten members and Annette Rice were present.
There was no administrator’s report.
Three new information guides were trained in September. There will be more training in November.
One-hundred-twenty-one volunteers attended one of the five inservice training sessions.
Jessica Springer was introduced and a resolution was passed to allow here check-writing privileges.
Carolyn Abel gave a gift shop report. The gift shop will be closed Nov. 19 and Christmas opening will be Nov. 20. The gift shop will be open two nights 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Nov. 29 and Dec. 13.
The next bloodmobile will be Nov. 5 at Trinity Lutheran Church hall.
The IHA meeting was held Oct. 11 in Des Moines. Seven auxiliary members attended, and Helen Mosman received a “shining star” award.
A book sale will be held Oct. 25 at the MAP conference room.
A jewelry sale will be held Dec. 13 at the MAP conference room.
The next meeting will be Nov. 12.
Kent Dinner Club
Kent Dinner Club met Oct. 11 at Creston Family Restaurant with 13 attending.
The next meeting will be 5:30 p.m. Nov. 8 at Creston Family Restaurant.
Chautauqua Club
Fourteen members, including one new member, of Progressive Chautauqua Study Club visited Lamoni for their annual field trip Oct. 9.
The first stop was at Grandma’s House for coffee and snacks. They were welcomed by a singing group from Lamoni with Welcome to Lamoni songs.
Then, they toured Liberty Hall, Joseph Smith III’s historic home.
At the Lamoni public library, they listened to Charlotte Whatley, an artist who creates paper dolls and paper doll books.
Jack Ergo, professor of piano, entertained the group with several pieces on Graceland University’s new Steinway piano at the Shaw Center. A music major sang for the group, also.
After lunch at the Linden St. Coffee House, the group visited the Lamoni Quilters and shopped in downtown Lamoni. A visit to the Amish Country Store at the Iowa Welcome Center finished the day.
The next meeting will be Nov. 27 at Jerrie Henderson’s home with Betty Wallace as co-hostess.
G.W. Wilson
The later G.W. Wilson dinner will be 12:30 p.m. Sunday at Fairview housing unit.
St. John’s Women’s Evening Fellowship
St. John’s Evening Women’s Fellowship met Oct. 8 with eleven members present.
Mary Burg was in charge of devotions and also read a humorous reading titled “Lookin’ Good.”
The least coin was collected.
Peggy Erskine gave the card report.
Tammy Willets conducted the business meeting. Plans were finalized for the all-you-can-eat soup supper to be held 4:30 to 7 p.m. Nov. 5. It was noted that the group volunteered to serve at the Open Table April 16.
A trivia question was given by Joyce Clark, and the prize was awarded to Delores Doench for the correct answer.
Refreshments were provided by Ramona Weeks.
The next meeting will be Nov. 12.
Beta Sigma Phi
Alpha Sigma Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Oct. 11 at Summit House with Pat Fils as hostess. Bev Miller presided. Members answered roll call with “Something I like about fall.”
Communications included a thank you for guest day, and from international, a member certification form and the availability of vintage pins.
Social Chairman Marilyn Larimore summarized guest day activities. She also asked members to wear Halloween colors to the next meeting.
There was discussion about a service project for December.
Dorothy Eyberg read from the Book of Beta Sigma Phi on the topic of progression.
Fils gave the program, touching on a variety of topics. She conducted an activity on “pie personality,” and shared humorous items. Fils gave a quiz on presidential facts with Eyberg receiving the prize.
The Oct. 25 meeting will be with Bev Miller at Summit House.
Afton Federated Garden Club
Afton Federated Garden Club was hostess at a fall salad luncheon Oct. 12 at Lorimor Community Center.
Before the luncheon, a general discussion was held by AFGC members. Sign-up sheets were passed around for next year’s hostesses and programs. President Johnson announced AFGC has been invited to the Sunshine Garden Club fall brunch 10 a.m. Nov. 7 at Madison Square in Winterset. RSVP to Vicki Johnson by Nov. 1.
An update on the name plaque for the marker was given, and Mary Seales presented a check from American Legion Auxiliary Fred N. Davis Post Unit No. 96 for The Blue Star Marker Project.
The luncheon was held at 11 a.m. The 35 attendees at the luncheon included members of Bevington Garden Club, Sunshine Garden Club from Winterset, Afton Federated Garden Club, four guests and speaker Kate Zimmerman.
The tables were decorated with different types of fall centerpieces created by the members, and many salads were also prepared and served by the members of Afton Federated Garden Club.
After the luncheon, Vicki Johnson introduced speaker Kate Zimmerman from Ringgold County Conservation Board, who did a program on humming birds, their habitat and habits.
The group participated in a drawing for the many door prizes.
The next meeting will be Nov. 9 at the home of Marilyn Larimore.
Kiwanis
The weekly Kiwanis meeting was held 12:05 p.m. Tuesday at The Windrow with 26 members and four guests. Brad Lorenzen president, presided. Jim Morris gave the prayer, and Chuck Taylor was finemaster.
The program was Sharon Snodgrass and Mark O’Riley with Appalachian Service Project, who discussed the work the group has done every summer since 1983. Kiwanis also presented them with a $200 check for next year’s supplies and expenses.
The club will be selling live Christmas wreaths in two sizes and a swag as a fundraiser with delivery before Thanksgiving. Contact any member for information. Deadline to order will be Nov. 6.
