Harry Samuel Ketcham, 91, of Osceola, formerly of Creston, died Oct. 11, 2012, at Clarke County Hospital in Osceola.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Creston. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery of Creston. Military graveside Rites will be conducted by Theodore J. Martens Post 1797, Creston V.F.W. Vistation with family present will be 1 to 2 p.m. service time Monday at the church. Harry Samuel Ketcham, son of Hazel L. (Smiley) and Frederick B. Ketcham, was born July 21, 1921, in Osceola.
Sam graduated from Osceola High School and went on to study at a school on commercial refrigeration in Chicago.
On Sept. 27, 1942, Sam married Marjorie Pauline Millsap in Grant City, Mo.
They settled and worked in Osceola, where Sam worked for Iowa Southern Utilities and had charge of the Osceola Swimming Pool maintenance for several years.
In 1967, they moved to Creston.
Sam did appliance repair and continued with Iowa Southern Utilities’ Western District, retiring as their technical supervisor in 1986.
Sam served in the United States Army for two years during World War II, working with the Navy in ship-to-shore communications on numerous invasions.
Sam was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Creston, having served in all offices. Sam had also served as president of the Osceola Chamber of Commerce, former Cub Scout Master in Osceola, former Toastmaster member, and was in charge of social events at Quiet Harbor of Creston for several years.
Sam is survived by his daughter Martha Ann (husband Ned) Cox of Osceola; sons, Michael (wife Tracey) Ketcham of Urbandale and Kirk (wife Sherry) Ketcham of Overland Park, Kan.; grandchildren, Marianne (husband Chad) Hellums, Christy (David Ayers) Cox, Abigail (husband Michael) Hostettler and Meghan and Matthew Ketcham; step-grandchildren, Billy Blish and Taylor and Wade Monthei; great-grandchildren, Madeline Hellums and Jameson and Harrison Hostettler; and sisters-in-law, Phyllis Ketcham of Ames and Shirley (husband Derschel) Pennock of Osceola.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents; wife in 2011; brother Keith Ketcham; sister Margery Ketcham and nephew Mark Ketcham.
