CAM 44,

Corning 30

CORNING — CAM took a 44-0 lead in the first half on the way to defeating Corning Friday night.

CAM improved to 6-1 in Eight-Man District 8 and 7-2 overall. Corning fell to 3-5, all in district play.

“Mistakes are holding us back,” Corning coach Kent Bass said. “When teams make mistakes, solid opponents will take advantage of them. CAM took advantage of every single mistake we made Friday night. They turned our two turnovers into 16 points, and forced us into eight negative yardage plays.”

All of Corning’s scoring came in the second half, on touchdown runs by Tyler Bissell, Zach Barton and Sammy Richey, and a pass from Jordan Stuart to Kallan Schmelzer. Keegan Longabaugh led the defense with 10 solo tackles.

The Red Raiders finish the season Friday in a non-district game at Wayne of Corydon.

“Even though this is a non-district game, I feel this is a crucial game for this program,” Bass said. “I want to see where our leadership is going to come from for future years. Not everyone can take a backseat and wait for things to happen. We need leaders and playmakers!”
