Susan E. Bowers, 55, of Mason City died Oct. 12, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 2502 S. Jefferson Ave., Mason City. The Rev. Emily Horrell will officiate. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City. Memorials may be directed to Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 2502 S. Susan E. Bowers, daughter of Marian (Hanggee) and Paul Nadler, was born Sept. 12, 1957, in Peoria, Ill.

In 1975, Susan graduated from Exira High School. She continued her education at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She later returned to UNI, earning a master’s degree.

Over the years, Susan taught Title 1 Reading at Roosevelt Elementary and third grade at Jefferson Elementary. She taught for more than 30 years.

On Nov. 17, 2001, Susan married Dave Bowers at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Mason City.

Susan was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, where she was active, including singing and song leading in the church choir.

Susan is survived by her husband Dave Bowers of Mason City; children, Jennifer O’Brien of Des Moines, Krista O’Brien of Chicago, Ill., and Stacy (husband Ryan) Henryson of Wes Des Moines; mother Marian Nadler of Cherokee Village, Ark.; grandmother Helen Hanggee of Cherokee Village; brother Steve (wife Brenda) Nadler of Mansfield, Ohio; mother-in-law Alice Bowers of Creston; stepsister Amy (husband David) Curtis of Urbandale; stepbrothers, John (wife Teri) Burg of McGregor and Gary (wife Sandy) Burg of Saint Joseph, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.

Susan was preceded in death by her children, Michael O’Brien and Kyle Bowers; father; grandfather Warren Hanggee; father-in-law Orvin Bowers; and stepmother JoAnn Nadler.
