Ben Mullin, GFWC music camp scholarship winner, spoke of his experience and answered questions from the group. He played a violin selection and sang.

Refreshments were served from a fall table.

The next meeting will be 1:30 p.m. Nov. 9 at the DV Richardson meeting room at Greater Regional Medical Center with Vi Cimock giving the program.

TOPS 1338

Iowa TOPS 1338 met 5 p.m. Oct. 15 at First United Methodist Church. Seven members weighed in with Carol Sheldahl and Marisue Lewis tied for best loser for the week and Alice Brown as runner-up.

Anna Thompson opened the meeting with the TOPS pledge. Minutes of the previous meeting were read by the secretary and the financial report was given by the treasurer. Squares was won by Thompson and fines by Lewis. The “Diet-O Contest” continues. The “Red Can Challenge” is to give oneself a small treat this week.

Next week’s program will be given by Lewis.

Neoma Davis was in charge of the program. She gave a quiz using small plastic bags containing common white substances used in the kitchen. The winner was Sheldahl who received a prize.

Thompson adjourned the meeting after the group repeated the closing pledge.

On Monday, TOPS 1338 of Creston met for the group’s weekly meeting. Nine members weighed in. One new member was in attendance, as well as one who is returning after a time of absence, this bringing a total of 11. Lola Baucom was the best loser and Marisue Lewis was runner-up.

Anna Thompson conducted the business meeting. Both minutes and financial reports were read. The “Diet-O” contest continues with several being close to winning. The “Red Can Challenge” is to have two days of no red meat this week. Next week’s program will be a report by Diana Loomis on the fall rally to be held Saturday in Des Moines.

The program was given by Lewis on “Super Market Super Foods.” She discussed foods found in local markets that boost ones energy and can help in weight loss if used properly. Recipes were included using some of these foods in different ways.
