Ladies Lakeshore Auxiliary
Ladies Lakeshore Auxiliary met Oct. 17.
Canasta winners were Maxine May, first; Janet Kessler, second; and Gwen Sandeman, third.
Barb Bills won the door prize.
Bills hosted cards and chatter Wednesday.
Chapter LG P.E.O.
Chapter LG met Oct. 16 at the home of Terry Ammon with Kay Ritter and Julie Christensen as co-hostesses. Thirteen members responded to roll call.
Dianne Huffman presented the program using resources from the P.E.O. website. She presented a “hot topic,” “Spider Web,” which involved input from all of the members. Each shared memorable and meaningful events from life that enable individuals to know and appreciate each other more.
The November birthday luncheon will be Nov. 6 at Kelly’s Garden Cafe. Nov. 13 will be the annual auction at Salem Lutheran Church with Kay Ritter, Denise Kuhl and Julie Christensen as co-hostesses.
Delta Kappa Gamma International
Eleven members of PI Chapter attended the Oct. 8 meeting at Corning Opera House. Dee Heaton gave an informative tour, discussing the renovation process and sharing upcoming activities. The meeting and meal followed at Breadaux Pizza.
President Joan Lienneman called the meeting to order.
The September minutes were read and approved with the correction of Angela Pratt as state president.
The treasurer’s report was given by Kim Riley. All expenses are current.
Correspondence: none at this time.
Old business: PI Chapter is in charge of providing decorations and napkins for the president’s visit. Delta Kappa Gamma International is supporting early-career educators and building schools in Africa.
New Business:
• Roxie Swartz is the area six coordinator and would like to visit the chapter sometime.
• Member Deb Fischer, CHS vocal instructor, and students will be presenting “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown” at Creston High School Nov. 9, 10, and 11.
• The next meeting will be Nov. 12 at Lincoln School, the proposed site of Gibson Memorial Library. The meal will follow at the home of Sandy Harris prepared by the Panther culinary students. There will be a white elephant sale.

Lincoln Neighbors Club
Lincoln Neighbors Club met Oct. 10 at Jerusalem Church with Linda Bailey as hostess. President Phyllis called the meeting to order. Linda read “Stay Involved.”
Roll call was answered by 13 members each reading a funny article.
Secretary read minutes of the last meeting. Approved.
New business, Mary explained about the ingathering kits, which anyone can help make or donated the articles for them. Let her know if interested in helping with the project.
Several from the church walked in the Crop Walk this year.
Phyllis asked members to be thinking what to do for the December meeting. Bring ideas to the next meeting. Also for the meeting, bring an old apron that is special to show and tell.
No further business. The meeting adjourned with the Lord’s prayer.
Next month the meeting will be at the home of Alice Bowers.
Luella served pumpkin dessert for refreshments.
Super 8 Club
Super 8 Club met Oct. 18 at Regency Park club room with Lottie Riley as hostess.
Winners were Irene Ripperger as high; Margarite Minnick, second high; and Donna Swanson, low.
The next meeting will be Nov. 15.
Elzevir Reading Circle
Elzevir Reading Circle met Oct. 12 at the home of Carol Brentnall. President Terry Ammon called the meeting to order with the words, ”You make your decisions and then your decisions make you.”
Members and one honorary member answered roll call telling of books and/or magazines they have read or are reading. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.
Treasurer Mary Burg gave her report. There was no correspondence. President Angela Pullen and Sherry Taylor will do the calling instead of a calling tree.
Members should bring socks, small soaps, shampoo, lotions, etc., to the next meeting. Members are also asked to bring food in cans, boxes or gift cards to the next meeting.
Scotch tape dispensers should be given to Ammon.
Kathy Tapken and Ammon will pursue the fishing line bin project in the spring.
GFWC SW District Director Joan Shaffer is interested in attending one of our meetings. Ammon will see if she would be able to come in April or May.
The meeting was closed with all standing and repeating Mary Stewart’s Club Collect. Burg moved to adjourn and Linda Topliff seconded. Motion passed and meeting was adjourned.
Ben Mullin, GFWC music camp scholarship winner, spoke of his experience and answered questions from the group. He played a violin selection and sang.
Refreshments were served from a fall table.
The next meeting will be 1:30 p.m. Nov. 9 at the DV Richardson meeting room at Greater Regional Medical Center with Vi Cimock giving the program.
TOPS 1338
Iowa TOPS 1338 met 5 p.m. Oct. 15 at First United Methodist Church. Seven members weighed in with Carol Sheldahl and Marisue Lewis tied for best loser for the week and Alice Brown as runner-up.
Anna Thompson opened the meeting with the TOPS pledge. Minutes of the previous meeting were read by the secretary and the financial report was given by the treasurer. Squares was won by Thompson and fines by Lewis. The “Diet-O Contest” continues. The “Red Can Challenge” is to give oneself a small treat this week.
Next week’s program will be given by Lewis.
Neoma Davis was in charge of the program. She gave a quiz using small plastic bags containing common white substances used in the kitchen. The winner was Sheldahl who received a prize.
Thompson adjourned the meeting after the group repeated the closing pledge.
On Monday, TOPS 1338 of Creston met for the group’s weekly meeting. Nine members weighed in. One new member was in attendance, as well as one who is returning after a time of absence, this bringing a total of 11. Lola Baucom was the best loser and Marisue Lewis was runner-up.
Anna Thompson conducted the business meeting. Both minutes and financial reports were read. The “Diet-O” contest continues with several being close to winning. The “Red Can Challenge” is to have two days of no red meat this week. Next week’s program will be a report by Diana Loomis on the fall rally to be held Saturday in Des Moines.
The program was given by Lewis on “Super Market Super Foods.” She discussed foods found in local markets that boost ones energy and can help in weight loss if used properly. Recipes were included using some of these foods in different ways.
The closing TOPS pledge was recited and the meeting was adjourned by Thompson.
Anyone who is interested in weight loss or maintianing a loss is invited to attend 5 p.m. every Monday at First United Methodist Church. Names do not have to be included in the newspaper report if one requests this.
The Book Club
The Book Club met Oct. 1 with Donna Haag. The meeting was called by President Retta. The minutes of the September meeting were read and approved. Roll call was answered with nine members and guest Deb Richardson, mother of Garnet Hilebrand, of South Dakota.
Retta gave the program with a book “Trader of Secrets” with author Dick Frances.
The program will be with Carolyn Derrick for the November meeting. The meeting place has been changed to Kelly’s Garden Cafe 1:30 p.m. Nov. 5.
Jennifer Queener joined The Book Club in October.
