Wayne 47,

Corning 28

CORYDON – Wayne took control in the fourth quarter to break open what had previously been a back-and-forth game, defeating Corning 47-28 in the regular season finale here on Friday.

“A pretty good back and forth game, and the outcome was determined by big second half plays,” Corning head coach Kent Bass said. “Our kids fought like crazy, found themselves up by two in the third quarter, but things broke down late and Wayne made some huge second half plays to pull away. “

Corning scored with just :28 seconds left in the first half on a Jordan Stuart 1-yard touchdown run. But, Wayne answered before the end of the half to take a four-point lead into the half.

Corning scored the first touchdown of the second half as well, which if Wayne hadn’t scored just before half, would have given the Red Raiders a two-possession lead.

Zach Barton finished the game with a team-high 130 rushing yards for the Red Raiders, while Jordan Stuart scored two touchdowns on the ground.

“It was a disappointing end to an up-and-down season,” Bass said. “I’m proud of our kids. We have a lot of heart – we just need more playmakers.”

Corning finished its first season of Eight-Man football with a 3-6 record.
