Geraldine Major Creston

Geraldine Major, 82, of Creston, formerly of Clarinda, died Oct. 22, 2012, in Creston.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at Ritchie Funeral Home in Clarinda. The Rev. Mark Clark will officiate. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery, Northboro. Open visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given in her name. Online condolences may be left at www.ritchiefuneralhome.com.

Geraldine Frances (Burroughs) Major, daughter of Ethel and Jesse (Elkins) Burroughs, was born Oct. 2, 1930, in Shambaugh.

Geraldine attended country schools in the area and graduated from Clarinda High School in 1949.

On May 14, 1954, Geraldine married Edison Major.

Geraldine worked at Peerless Laundry and hung wallpaper for many people in the area.

In 1975, she started working at NSK Corporation (Hoover NSK at that time) and worked there for 19 years, retiring in December 1992.

Geraldine and Edison moved to Creston in October 2001 to be closer to family, as Edison’s health was failing. He died in January 2009.

Geraldine entered Creston Nursing and Rehab in April 2011, after suffering a stroke.

Geraldine is survived by her daughter Nancy (Ernie) Morrison of Creston; son Ed (Bobbie) Major of Bellevue, Neb.; grandchildren, Traci (Blade) Martwick, Michelle (James) Allen, Cody Morrison, Renee (Glen) Hoyt, Amy (Kevin) Sharp and Sammi Sink; great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Owen Allen, Makenzi, Gunner, Joslyn and Axel Martwick, Kacie and Kayleann Bishop and Jake Hoyt and Sterling and Adrianna Sharp, all of Creston; sisters, Rose Harms, Shirley (Vernard) Thomas, Leona Clark and Jeanne Williams; brother Vince (Junell) Burroughs; sisters-in-law, Dixie and Terry Major, Carolyn Burroughs and Florence Major; brother-in-law Don Major; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents; grandson Cory Morrison; sister Patty Baker; brothers, Jess and Marion Burroughs; sister-in-law Irene Major; and brothers-in-law, Alvin Baker, Winfred Harms, Charles Williams, Robert Clark and Clem, Clarence, Vernon and Jim Major.
