Iowa State Patrol

Edgar Henry Benedict, 48, of Dawson, was charged 1:30 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Owl Avenue and Creamery Road for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

According to an Iowa State Patrol report, an officer was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident in Union County. During the initial investigation and speaking with the drivers of the vehicles, the officer noticed Benedict to have a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person. Field testing showed Benedict to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. Benedict was transported to the Union County Law Enforcement Center and asked to provide a sample of his breath, which he consented to and resulted in a blood alcohol content of .126.

Benedict was released on $1,000 bond.
