No ‘legislation from the bench’
From Lyndon Davenport
By now most of you have seen one or more of the signs to vote “no” on the retention of Justice David Wiggins, or you have heard some discussion on the subject. Justice Wiggins is one of the seven who usurped the jobs of the legislature and the governor by trying to change the meaning of marriage. The Supreme Court is to render opinions on laws. It is not to change or make law and demand that others follow the justices’ opinion.
If we do not exercise the retention vote, we open the way for more “legislation from the bench.” Some other special interest groups can come along and work for their minority interest, and by propaganda and manipulation, could bring about some other decision against the interests and welfare of the people of Iowa.
I encourage you to vote “no” on the retention of Justice Wiggins to remove an “activist” justice, who, by the way, got a 63 percent “grade” from his peers, and protect our freedoms and the integrity of our Supreme Court.
