Raiders strike late to reach quarterfinals

Sobotka scores three touchdowns for 11-0 Mount Ayr

MOUNT AYR — Seventh-ranked Mount Ayr became the first 11-0 team in school history Monday night, and earned a familiar trip to Council Bluffs for Friday’s Class 1A quarterfinal matchup against No. 8 St. Albert.

But the 21-14 victory over visiting Ogden Monday required some last-minute dramatics.

Ogden, coming in at 6-4 including a previous 19-7 loss to the Raiders during District 7 play, held a 7-6 halftime lead when quarterback Caleb Frye connected with Preston Church for an 8-yard touchdown with only eight seconds left in the half.
