Tourney winner

ATLANTIC — Rick Carter of Creston, representing Crestmoor Golf Club, won the Senior Division (50 and over) of the Tournament of Champions at Atlantic Golf and Country Club.

Carter shot 67-71-74 for a 5-over par total for 212 in the 54-hole tournament. George Gartelos of Marion was second at 213 in a field of 34 senior participants.

Jason Reynolds of Griswold won his third title in capturing the championship division with a 3-under par 204 on rounds of 65-68-71. Chad Dryden of Crestmoor Golf Club was tied for seventh at 73-69-68 for 3-over 210.

Others from the area included Lance Halverson of Osceola Country Club at 6-over 213, Jeff Giza of Osceola Golf Club at 13-over 220 and Matt Haley of Happy Hollow Country Club in Corning, withdrawing after opening rounds of 77 and 72.

Senior meet

ANKENY — Emily Wignall of Creston and Colton Graham of Nodaway Valley are among area runners selected to run in the I.A.T.C. Senior All-Star Cross Country Meet.

The event will be held Saturday at the DMACC campus in Ankeny. The 5K race for top Iowa high school seniors will begin at 1:30 p.m. for the girls, and 2:15 p.m. for the boys.

SWCC Jamboree

The SWCC Girls Basketball Jamboree on Nov. 15 will include four games beginning at 5:45 p.m.

The event is directed by Larry McNutt, Creston High School head girls basketball coach, and Brett Gilcrist, head women’s basketball coach at Southwestern Community College.

Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for students.

The schedule includes: Riverside vs. CAM, 5:45 p.m.; Clarke vs. Nodaway Valley, 6:30 p.m.; Adair-Casey vs. East Union, 7:15 p.m.; Martensdale-St. Marys vs. Creston, 8 p.m.

Basketball shirts

The Creston boys and girls basketball teams are selling shirts for this season. The shirts will be red. The short-sleeve and long-sleeve are polyester, and the hooded sweatshirts are 50/50 cotton and polyester.

Order forms are available from coach Larry McNutt or coach Billy Hiatt at Creston High School. The form is also posted online on the girls basketball website under “Panther Apparel” at https://sites.google.com/a/crestonschools.org/creston-panthers-girls-basketball/.

Regional coaches

Diagonal native T.J. Tassell is coaching Ar-We-Va in a Class 1A regional volleyball final Wednesday in Atlantic against Stanton.

A Class 2A regional final at Ogden has Carroll Kuemper Catholic against the Woodward-Granger team coached by Creston natives Meg Jackson and Kate Hargrafen, sisters of Creston coach Polly Luther.
