Alice Blazek Fontanelle

Alice Blazek, 65, of Fontanelle died Oct. 29, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at Steen Funeral Home, 525 Maple St., Fontanelle. The Rev. Cathy Nutting will officiate. Interment will be in Greenfield Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday with family present 5 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.steenfunerals.com.

Alice Faye Blazek, daughter of Ethel Raedean (Nissen) and Hurbert LeRoy McCants, was born July 7, 1947, in Union County.

Alice grew up in southwest Iowa, living in Shannon City, Macksburg and Orient. She attended school at Orient-Macksburg.

On Jan. 17, 1971, Alice married William “Bill” Blazek at Fontanelle United Methodist Church. They made their home in rural Fontanelle.

Alice was a waitress for many years and at one time worked as a waitress at Toad’s Cafe in Greenfield.

Alice is survived by her children, William Blazek, Velma (sis) Blazek, Andrew (wife Kara) Blazek and Alan Blazek, all of Fontanelle; grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Connor Blazek and Erika and Jesse Christensen; sister Anna (husband Ed) Lyddon of Des Moines; other relatives and friends.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 2011; an infant brother and brother Roger McCants.
