Somers helps Waukee to 11th place

MARSHALLTOWN — Freshman Camryn Somers of Creston swam on four events for Waukee in the Warriors’ 11th-place finish at the Iowa Girls State Swimming and Diving Meet Saturday at Marshalltown YMCA.

The leading event for Waukee involving Somers was the 400-meter freestyle relay, which placed seventh in 3:37.94. Somers swam the leadoff leg.

Somers swam the freestyle anchor for Waukee’s 13th-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:52.26. She was the leadoff swimmer for the Warriors in a 13th-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:42.09.

In her only individual event, Somers placed 16th in the 100 freestyle in 55.50. Team points are awarded through 16 places at the state meet.

Waukee finished one spot ahead of 12th-place Lewis Central, earning 97 points to the Titans’ 82. Ames was a three-peat winner with 274 points.
