Glen L. Weaver, 97, of Creston died Nov. 5, 2012, at Creston Nursing and Rehab Center.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at the United Methodist Church in Creston. The Rev. Jim Morris will officiate. Interment will be in Greenfield Cemetery. Open visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Pearson Family Funeral Service, 809 W. Montgomery St. Visitation with family present will be 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Glen L. Weaver, son of Ina Mae (Johnson) and Walter L. Weaver, was born Feb. 27, 1915, in Grand River Township, Adair County.
Glen attended country schools and graduated from Greenfield High School in 1933. He went on to attend a business college in Chillicothe, Mo.
On May 14, 1939, Glen married Zona Mae Kerns in Winterset. Zona died in 1962, leaving Glen to raise their youngest son.
On July 1, 1967, Glen married Martha June Bennett Haaf of Hebron.
On Nov. 1, 1976, Glen retired from farming and he and June moved to Creston.
Glen went back to college at age 62, obtained his real estate license and worked for Bob Beecher Real Estate agency until he finally retired at the age of 77.
Glen was a member and trustee of the First United Methodist Church of Creston; he held the offices of secretary, treasurer, chairman and president of the Creston Lions Club; and was an honorary member of the historical park. He was on the Care Review Board of Creston Nursing and Rehab Center for 16 years until 2004. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and in 1998, Glen was voted Creston’s “Citizen of the Year.”
Glen is survived by his daughter Marie (husband John) Dobias of Vancouver, Wash.; daughter-in-law Deb Weaver (husband Eric) Ripperger of Afton; stepson Paul Haaf of Kansas City, Kan.; grandchildren, Tina (husband Joe) Barthlow of Eugene, Ore., Tammy (husband Steve) Dixon of Vancouver, Wash., Kyle and Morgan Weaver of Ames and Cory Weaver of Cedar Falls; step-grandchildren, Sally Merriman of Boston, Mass., Matt Merriman of Portland, Ore., and Chris (wife Kristen) Haaf of Philadelphia, Pa.; great-grandsons, Zachary and Jacob Dixon of Vancouver, Wash.; step-great-grandsons, Jesse and Leo Haaf of Philadelphia, Pa.; brother-in-law Wilbur Ricks of Creston; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his first wife, Glen was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Larry in 1984 and Bruce in 2004; second wife June in 2011; sister Edna Staggs Ricks; brother and sister-in-law Guy and Gertrude of Greenfield; step-daughter and son-in-law Pauline and Jerry Fox; and step-daughter-in-law Marli Haaf.
