Homer Lauer, 80, of the Hill of Zion area, died Nov. 8, 2012, at his home.
Funeral services were 11 a.m. today, Nov. 12, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Greenfield. The Rev. Ken Gross officiated the service. Burial was in Hill of Zion Cemetery, rural Orient,with full military graveside rites by Williamson American Legion Post No. 719. Steen Funeral Home, 101 S.E. Fourth St., Greenfield, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the Homer Lauer memorial fund to be established by the family at a later date. Homer Melvin Lauer, son of Winnie Mae (Griffin) and Irvin Joseph Lauer, was born Oct. 10, 1932, near Zion.
Homer was born, raised, and farmed his entire life on the family farm.
Homer attended Zion School and graduated from there in 1951. Homer was a school bus driver while he attended school.
In April 1953, Homer left for active duty to serve in the Army. He was stationed in Germany.
Homer returned to his family homestead to farm.
On Aug. 27, 1956, Homer married Martha Jane Ward.
Homer is survived by his wife Martha Lauer; children, Ronald (Dee Ann) of Creston, Kim (Bert) Maeder of Orient, Roger Lauer of Creston and Carrie (Jon) Powell of Creston; sister Marilyn Fils; brother David (Marjorie); brother-in-law, Delmar (Alice) Brown; and 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, Stephanie (Curt) and Jackson, Anna and Thomas Mikkelsen, Sarah (Brad) and Bailey and Mason Wilson, Joseph (Amy) and Alex and Alivia Maeder, Jessica (Dillon) and Kayla and Colton Roberts, Pamela (Josh) and Gabe Kaufman, Roger Lee Powell, Rebecca Maeder, Kristin Powell and Luke Powell.
Homer was preceded in death by his parents; sister Phyllis Brown; brother Rollin; and brother-in-law Richard Fils.
