From K’Lea Johnson
food service director East Union Community School District
I don’t normally get frustrated with the talk around about the school lunches because I know that ours haven’t changed, other than offering larger servings of fruits and vegetables.
I challenge the adults to actually go to whatever school their kids or grandkids attend and have lunch with them BEFORE they make uninformed remarks. It offends those of us who do a job that pays so little and get so little support from the community, not to mention upsetting our family members who inadvertently are exposed to those uniformed statements.
If you find the lunches in fact lacking, then it is up to the public to let the school and the USDA know how they feel and what changes they would like to see made.
It would be refreshing to have some support within the community rather than feeling as though we should be defending ourselves whenever the topic of school lunches is talked about.
