Lavetta Burkhalter, 92, of Creston died Nov. 13, 2012, at Crest Haven Care Centre.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The Rev. Dianna Clark will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Cromwell. Open visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. with family present 6 to 8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25. Lavetta Irene Burkhalter, daughter of Claudie Mae (Copeland) and Harry Ivan Moore, was born March 29, 1920, in Adams County.
Lavetta attended school in Cromwell.
On Sept. 2, 1945, Lavetta married Arnold Henry Burkhalter at the Methodist Church in Creston. They lived with Arnold’s parents for 2 or 3 years before moving to Creston.
Lavetta was a homemaker and in the late 1960s she started working for Gibson’s, which then became Pamida, for 14 years, until she retired.
Lavetta was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and Women’s Bowling League.
Lavetta is survived by her daughters, Diana (husband Jim) Fender of Hancock and Dixie (husband Dennis) Davis of Diagonal; son Dean (wife Karen) Burkhalter of Sugar Grove, Ill.; sister Doris Hood of Diagonal; sisters-in-law, Wanda Moore of Creston and LaVerne Bovaird of Prescott; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Lavetta was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1992; brother Bernard Moore; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Keith Hood, Edward and Frieda (Burkhalter) Crane, Art and Merle Burkhalter, Edwin and Eleanor Burkhalter, Jim and Rosena (Burkhalter) Hunter, Esther Burkhalter, Donald Bovaird, Roscoe and Lillian (Burkhalter) Brown and Darrell and Marie (Burkhalter) Brown.
