Southwestern swept

TRENTON, Mo. — The Southwestern men’s and women’s basketball teams were swept by North Central Missouri College here on Tuesday.

The men lost 72-38, while the women dropped a 71-53 game.

Central player

PELLA — Spencer Bakerink of Creston had eight rebounds in 14 minutes to help Central College defeated Fontbonne Unviersity (Mo.) 80-66 Saturday. Among five players in double figures for the Dutch was former Iowa player Branden Stubbs of Des Moines Christian with 14 points.

In two games for the 2-0 Dutch, Bakerink, a 6-5 junior, has 14 rebounds and three points. The squad also includes 6-2 freshman guard Brandon Sweet of Clarinda.

Statesmen senior

OSKALOOSA — Senior Morgan Evans of Creston is a 5-9 guard on the William Penn University women’s basketball team.

The transfer from Southwestern Community College has played in seven games for the 3-4 Lady Statesmen, averaging 4.3 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. Jensen Steart, a 5-6 sophomore guard, plays on the William Penn JV.

GV Vikings

DES MOINES — Taylor Hance’s 187.7 average with a high game of 204 led the Grand View bowling team to a 16th-place finish among 26 teams at the ISYL Leatherneck Classic over the weekend in Davenport and Milan, Ill.

Hance, a sophomore from Creston, had 28 strikes in six games and a clean frame rate of 83.3 percent.

Luke Eblen, 6-1 junior from Creston, is a member of the Grand View men’s basketball team.

Special Olympics

GRIMES — Madison Moore, Makayla Burgmaier, Vanessa Jackson and Mason Perkins of Creston all received gold medals for their first-place results Saturday at Special Olympics Iowa Bowling.
