ADEL — The Creston freshmen and junior varsity basketball teams split with ADM here Tuesday.
The JV team came away with a 58-48 win over the Tigers in the season opener.
Junior Brandon Phipps led the Panthers with 17 points, while junior Cole Thompson added 12. Junior Cole Crawford netted seven points, while Alex Nielsen and Christian Groumoutis each scored six points.
Nielsen led the Panthers with 10 rebounds, while Nick Noecker and Evan Nielsen each added six rebounds.
“It was a great start to the season,” Creston head JV coach Kritter Hayes said. “I told the guys to begin with the end in mind and set the tone for the season. They did so by rebounding and playing relentless defense. A total team effort.”
The Panthers travel to Lewis Central on Friday.

The Creston freshmen started the season out with a 49-18 loss to ADM.
Brandon Lee led the Panthers with seven points, including a 3-pointer. Josh Reed added five points and Brandon Jones chipped in four.
Jones finished with three blocked shots and Travis Purdy dished out two assists.
“The boys played very well considering it was the first game of the year,” freshman coach Larry Beaman said. “They will continue to work hard and get ready for their next game at Lewis Central on Friday.”
