REDFIELD — West Central Valley eighth-grade boys defeated Creston Monday, 39-30. Cody Crawford led Creston with 15 points.
“It was a very rough and ragged game,” coach Mike McCabe said. “We must be committed and accountable in order to improve and it starts with listening. We have some guys really working and playing hard. It takes everybody.”
Creston won the B game, 16-9, led by Landon Guhse’s eight points.
“The kids did a nice job moving the ball and looking for each other,” McCabe said.

On Tuesday, Creston defeated Winterset at Winterset, 37-27, led by Cody Crawford’s 14 points.
“I was proud of how the kids bounced back after the disappointing loss on Monday,” coach McCabe said. “We still have lots of work to do, but it was nice to bounce back with a win.”
Creston also won the second game, 30-24. Brenden McDowell scored six points in the victory.
“The kids got to play a regulation game and playing time is the best way to improve and get better,” McCabe said.

REDFIELD — Creston edged West Central Valley seventh-grade boys Monday, 35-34. Evan Jacobson had 12 points for Creston. Tucker Flynn had five points and 10 rebounds.
West Central Valley tied the game with a three-point play with 30 seconds left.
“We ran a set against their zone to get a last shot and Gavin Sickels was able to get the offensive rebound and made one of two free throws to win it with one second left,” coach Todd Jacobson said.
Creston won the B game, 11-4.

The Panthers fell to Winterset at home Tuesday, 41-31. Cole Higgins had 10 points and two steals for Creston.
“Our defense improved from Monday’s game,” coach Jacobson said. “We were down three at halftime and down three (29-26) after the third. We struggled to score in the fourth and allowed Winterset to convert offensive rebounds into points to pull away in the final quarter.”
Winterset won the second game, 25-17. Randall Pingree had seven points and four steals. Cody Wagner had 14 rebounds while scoring four points.
“This was the first game for our team to get four full quarters of work,” McCabe said. “They have improved in a lot of areas and it showed as they had a chance to succeed with only six players playing against 10 from Winterset.”

West Central Valley stole the ball in the final minute to prevent Creston eighth-grade girls’ attempt for a tying basket in the closing seconds here Monday, as the Wildcats prevailed 25-23.
Hannah Hood had 12 points and 13 rebounds for Creston. Cammy Rutherford added nine points and 13 rebounds.
“The girls gave a good effort. The lead change back and forth several times,” coach Larry Peterson said. “It was a good experience for them to play in a tight game like that. We had a chance at the end, and just didn’t quite execute the play.”
Creston won the B game, 8-3, led by Katie Powers’ six points.

A 13-2 first quarter carried West Central Valley seventh-grade girls to a 33-12 victory over Creston Monday.
Creston stayed within a 10-6 margin while playing strong defense in the second and third quarters, but the start and finish of the game was too much to overcome.
Chloe Hagle had six points for Creston and Kendra Stewart had four.
West Central Valley won the B game, 17-4.
