Deer harvest
DES MOINES — Nearly 60,000 deer in Iowa have been harvested by hunters so far this year.
The state Department of Natural Resources said Tuesday that the count for the end of the first shotgun season is on par with last year. The agency says five hunters were injured during this shotgun season.
About 65,000 hunters are expected to participate in the state’s second shotgun season, which begins Saturday and concludes in mid-December.
Southwestern splits
The Southwestern Community College basketball teams split their games on Wednesday.
The men won at Buena Vista, 83-60, while the women fell to nationally-ranked Iowa Western, 82-29. Reports from Wednesday’s games can be found in a future edition of the Creston News Advertiser.
Time change
Creston athletic director Jeff Bevins said times for the girls basketball home games against Atlantic on Dec. 15 have changed to the following:
Freshman game, 2 p.m.; junior varsity, 3:30 p.m.; varsity, 5 p.m.
