Audubon wins Lenox Invitational

Pettit makes finals for Panther JV

LENOX — Audubon crowned four champions and scored 203.5 points to win the Lenox Invitational Saturday.

Clarinda was second with three champs and 197.5 points. Dusten Reed won the 113-pound title as Bedford-Lenox took third with 147 points.

Corning was fifth with 104 points and had three champions in Logan Wood (106), Kallan Schmelzer (160) and Zach Barton (195).

East Union had a champion in Bryson Kinyon, who pinned Tayler Pettit of Creston/O-M JV in the finals.

That was the Panthers’ highest finish, while Garrett Taylor (126) and Jacob Johnston (160) each placed fourth. As a team, Creston/O-M JV scored 72.5 points for seventh place in the 12-team field.

Pettit had an impressive day for the Panthers, winning by a 16-0 technical fall and a second-period pin before facing the top-seeded Kinyon in the finals. Kinyon had three first-period falls.

At 126, Taylor won an 8-2 decision before losing in the semifinals. He came back to win by a fall in the consolations and lost by a fall in the third-place match.

Johnston had a similar path, reach the semifinals with a 13-2 win before being derailed by Schmelzer’s championship run. Johnston had a consolation win by fall before losing by one point in the third-place match.
