Dale Kembery Thayer

Dale Kembery, 90, of Thayer died Dec. 9, 2012, at Afton Care Center.

Memorial graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at Hopeville Cemetery in Hopeville. The Rev. Dwayne Henrichs will officiate. No visitation will be held. Flag presentation will be by John B. Parks Post No. 8882, Afton, V.F.W. Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25, Creston, is in charge of arrangements. Leland Dale Kembery, son of Sadie Glen (Standley) and James Prentiss Kembery, was born Sept. 28, 1922, in Adair County.

The family moved to Arispe in 1940 and later to a farm near Thayer in 1942.

Dale graduated from Arispe High School in 1943.

Dale served in the United States Navy from May 1943 to April 1946. He returned to Thayer to farm.

Dale worked at repairing radios and TVs for many years. He continued to farm until he retired in 1996.

Dale moved to Afton Care Center in January 2010.

Dale was a lifetime member of National Rifleman Association.

Dale is survived by his sisters, Mary Kienholz and Carmen Hicks of Spokane, Wash.; brothers, William Cullen Kembery of Goshen, Ind., and Lyle Kembery of Thayer; and various nieces and nephews, including local niece Karon Jones of Thayer.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Alda Copper, Lorraine Scott,
Gloria Meaders and Grace Sills; brother James Prentiss Kembery Jr. and niece Marilyn Tostenson.
