Ewald ‘Tex’ Stock Carroll
Ewald O. “Tex” Stock, 78, of Carroll died Dec. 6, 2012, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Mass of Christian Burial was 10 a.m. today, Dec. 11, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. The Revs. Timothy Schott, Dennis Miller and Lawrence McCarty
officiated. Carroll Knights of Columbus will form an honor guard at the church. Burial will be in Carroll City Cemetery. Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home, 705 N. Carroll St., Carroll, was in charge of arrangements. A memorial fund has been established in Tex’s name and memorials may be left at the funeral home or church. Ewald O. “Tex” Stock, son of Mathilda (Proschko) and Otto Stock, was born Jan. 21, 1934, in Shiner, Texas.
He grew up in Shiner and graduated from Shiner High School in 1952.
After high school, Tex moved to Houston, where he worked for Laddish Manufacturing Company and later as a meat cutter for JMH Grocery Store.
Tex enlisted in the United States Army in 1954 and served two years active duty and four years in the reserves.
On June 24, 1961, Tex married Kathryn Schott at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Perry by Msgr. Morris J. Powers.
The couple lived in Perry where Tex worked for Fareway and later Safeway Grocery Store as a meat cutter. Tex and Kaye moved to Denison and Cherokee before moving to Carroll in 1965, where he worked for Safeway as meat department manager and later Hy-Vee until he retired in 1992.
Tex was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Charles Carroll Council 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and Streamline Royal Rovers.
Tex and his wife were prince and princess of the Iowa Chapter of Po.L.K. of A. 1988 through 1989.
Tex and Kaye wintered at Trophy Gardens Resort at Alamo, Texas, for 14 years.
Tex is survived by his wife Kaye of Carroll; son Dr. Thomas (wife Debbie) Stock of Chester Springs, Pa.; daughter Theresa (husband Jeff) Pudenz of Creston; grandchildren, Katelyn and Nathan Pudenz, both of Creston; sister-in-laws, Jean (husband Jim) Miller of Marshalltown and Mary Beth (husband Jim) Ferring of Dubuque; brother-in-law Charles (wife Katie) Schott of Perry; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Tex was preceded in death by his parents and sister Irene Stock.
