Spartans snare league victory
Southwestern men got off to a good start in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference race with a 51-43 home victory over Iowa Lakes Tuesday night.
The Spartans led 23-16 in a trademark “grinding” first half, coach Mike Holmes said.
“We jumped out to a 9-2 lead, which they trimmed pretty quick,” Holmes said. “We kept it at seven at half. We were possessing it long, grinding it out, and the tempo was favoring us. They are a very good team, but they were having trouble getting into a rhythm.”
