The Southern Prairie YMCA Sting Rays swim team is busy in a competition season, and looking forward to a local fund-raising effort in January.

“We are going to be doing a lap-a-thon the same day of the YMCA’s Grand Re-opening, Jan. 5,” said Cody Hudson, the Y’s aquatics and program director. “The kids will be taking pledges for how many laps they swim to raise money for the program. They are hoping to raise funds to help pay for going to regionals in Minnesota.”

The Sting Rays swim at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Waukee. The rest of the schedule includes Dec. Jan. 12 at Atlantic, Jan. 26 at Des Moines Riverfront YMCA and Sectional meet Feb. 9 at Ankeny.
