Spartan comeback attempt falls short

The Southwestern Community College women’s basketball tam battled back from an 11-point deficit, but fell to Iowa Lakes Community College here on Tuesday in the conference opener, losing 60-55.

Both teams got out to good offensive starts, but midway through the first half, the Lakers put together a run stretching their lead to 11 points.

Southwestern was able to cut the lead to five points, but Iowa Lakes hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to take an eight-point lead into the halftime break.
