EU setter headed to Southwestern

Rochelle Means, East Union High School senior, will be a member of the Southwestern Community College volleyball team starting with the 2013-14 academic year.

Means, a four-sport athlete at East Union, has been the starting setter for the Eagles since her freshman year. She has helped lead her team to two state tournament appearances and multiple conference championships.

Means was a 2011 third-team All-State athlete and has been named to Pride of Iowa all conference teams numerous times. Means was a unanimous first team choice in 2012 and has been an all-district selection.

During 2012, Means was second in Class 1A for assists per set with 8.35. She finished the season with 888 assists, 102 kills, 61 aces, and 215 digs. She was also named second team all-conference for softball.

“Rochelle is a great athlete and has a great volleyball IQ,” Melissa Blessington, SWCC head coach stated. “She is so versatile — she can set, but knows how to attack the ball as well. She is one of the best volleyball players in the area, has a great work ethic, and we are very excited that she will be a part of our team.”
